“I am not really ready for movies yet. It calls for a bit too much commitment,” Sonali told IANS.
She was speaking on the sidelines of the Omega Olympics Evening organised here to honour the Indian contingent for the Beijing games.
Asked when she was planning a comeback to the silver screen, Sonali said: “It is going to take me a while and I won’t call it a comeback. Once an actor is always an actor. There is nothing dramatic as a comeback about it. Right now I am taking a break. I don’t have the time to do movies now.”
The actress, who was last seen in a cameo in Karan Johar’s 2003 hit “Kal Ho Na Ho”, has been on a sabbatical from acting since her marriage to filmmaker Goldie Behl in 2002.
However, the beautiful actress will be seen on television as a judge in the fourth season of the upcoming music reality show “Indian Idol” along with music stalwarts like Javed Akhtar, Anu Malik and Kailash Kher.
This is not the first time the actress will be seen on the small screen. Sonali has earlier judged Sony Entertainment Television’s reality show “Mr. And Mrs. TV” with Bollywood director Madhur Bhandarkar.
Her debut on TV dates back to 2001 when she hosted Star Plus’s kids-based dance show “Kya Masti Kya Dhoom”.
Asked how difficult it was to loose the extra pounds she had gained post motherhood, Sonali said, “I enjoyed being overweight. Getting back to shape has been a completely natural process.”
“Every phase has its excitement. But I do try and eat healthy and I eat well,” she concluded.

The actress Sonali Bendre will be back in our homes with the fourth season of Indian Idol.Reality television is not new to Sonali. She was earlier seen in Kya Masti Kya Dhoom and Mr and Mrs. Sonali will be judging Indian Idol, along with Anu Malek, Javed Akhtar and Kailash Kher. As the hit singing show premieres tonight, Sonali chats with Patcy N.
How did you bag Indian Idol?
When I judged Mr and Mrs for Sony Entertainment Television, it was like a dry run. I enjoyed my experience of working with them. So when they approached me for Indian Idol, I decided to do it. Also, the people in [production house] Miditech know my sister very well, so there was a comfort level. I’m too lazy to step out of my comfort zone.
Did you travel extensively for the Indian Idol auditions?
I went to most parts of India. But I did not go to London, as my child is only three years old. I was apprehensive of leaving him behind. But I went to Dubai, as it was a shorter flight.

And this time she will give company to Annu Malek, Javed Akhtar and Kailash Kher as judge in Sony’s 4th season of Indian Idol that premieres on September 19th, every Friday and Saturday at 9 PM.“I'll be judging the X-factor of the contestants”, says Sonali who was earlier seen as judge in Mr. and Ms. Television. When asked the meaning of X-factor she explains, “There is no particular definition for it. But for me it will be the honesty and originality of the contestants that I'll be looking for in a person to enter Indian Idol show”.How has been your experience as a judge of Indian Idol? “Well initially it was difficult for me as we are used to scripts as an actor. Over here it's all real, no script, no drama everything is spontaneous. Till now I have enjoyed myself and hope to do the same in the coming episodes”, she quips. When are you planning to re-enter Bollywood? “My child is still very small and needs me. For now there is time for me to take some projects on silver screen, till then I'm happy doing my stint on television”, says the actress turned judge.

Actress Sonali Bendre today said Jaya Bachchan's controversial remarks made at the music launch function of her husband's film 'Drona' were not meant the way they were construed to be.
"Those who know Jayaji will understand that her comments were not made with a malicious intent. They were off-the-cuff remarks. She is like a mother to me. I am saying this not because I am married to Goldie Behl whom she considers as her elder son. I have known her since the time I worked in the ABCL's film 'Major Saab'. It has been a lovely relationship," Sonali told reporters here today.
She was interacting with the media at the launch of 'Indian Idol' season four of which she is one of the judges.
"Jayaji and Amitabh Bachchan are senior professionals. They come with a vast body of work and are icons to millions of people.
"Sentiments had been hurt because of the comments and they have been gracious enough to apologise. We too should be gracious enough to accept the apologies and put the incident behind us," said Sonali, who apart from being close to the Bachchans, is a friend of MNS chief Raj Thackeray who was angered by Jaya's remarks.
Raj Thackeray earlier in the day announced that he had called off his campaign against the Bachchans after the Big B's apologies.
To a question on whether she had tried to mediate between the two parties and settle the matter, Sonali said "I am too small a person to get into this. I am off politics and don't understand it."
Sonali said Jayaji had in fact reprimanded her husband at the function for speaking in English. "She was close to Goldie's late father and dedicated the film to him. We were so emotional at the event. I never thought the remarks would create such a controversy," she added.
